Ever wonder what the perfect job must be? If you’re an animal lover like me, a soul level animal communicator has GOT to be up there! That’s what Maine native Danielle MacKinnon does and it was an absolute treat getting to pick her brain about it. Learn more in our interview below!

You describe yourself as a soul level animal communicator, animal intuitive, and a pet communication teacher - could you explain what that means?

An animal communicator is a pet psychic. That's the quick and easy way to explain it. When people are like, “do train animals?,” no, no, it's psychic. It's all psychic! I train people to connect psychically with their animals and I certify people in that. I also give readings at times, but I don't give private readings anymore because my heart is in teaching.

Where did your passion for animals begin?

Oh, all the way back. When I was born, I was born loving animals. I was also born with this sensitivity and intact, except that nobody knew what it was. They just thought I was a really high maintenance little girl who couldn't handle a lot of stuff. It took quite a while for me to realize that it was actually an intuitive connection with animals.

What do our pets want us to know the most?

That's such a good question because everybody asks this question - “Does my pet know how much I love them?” These are people who are like, “Can you just ask him if he knows how much I love him?,” and then I'll go to the dog and the dog is like, “Oh my yes, he tells me five times a day, she tells me before she leaves the house.” We so think that we as humans, we often act like we're not good enough for animals, like we need to do more good, be more, and all of that. Yet, when I connect with the animals, they're always like, “I just want you to be the best person you can be.”

What happens to our beloved animals in the afterlife?

Well, first of all, there is an afterlife for them! They love to come back and visit us and send us signs and they love to watch over us, they love to visit us while we sleep. This is gonna make me sound more crazy than I already sound saying I'm a pet psychic, but I'm cool with it. Animals that have crossed over, they actually want us to continue our relationship with them. They don't want us to think of it as like it's done, they're gone. They want to us to talk to them. They want us to remember them. They want us to say hello in the morning and just acknowledge that they are around and acknowledge that we want them around.

You also offer classes for others to learn animal communication - what are those like?

I teach animal communication classes online through live webinars as well as pre recorded ones. I think the live webinar ones are the most fun because I get to be there. My belief and my experience is that everyone is intuitive with animals. Everyone has intuition. My classes are really helping people figure out what's there, notice it, and then grow it, so you're not learning a totally new thing. You are learning what already exists within you and kind of discovering it and and playing with it.

How do animal readings work?

I can do it with a name, a picture, or just a desire. For example, “Can you connect with the animal that I saw running across the road?” I just need a data point to do it. I'm not saying I'm special, I'm saying this is how it works. When you give me that data point, then I'll connect into the animal. Animals give me words, feelings, thoughts, emotions, pictures, smells, tastes, a lot of animals like to communicate with smells and tastes, it's not awesome.

What are people typically looking for when they ask you to do a reading?

A lot of them have a pet that's crossed over and they just want to reconnect with that pet that's crossed over. That's a thing, you can absolutely reconnect with them. Also, if they're having a behavior problem, like, “Why is my dog barking at all men?,” or something like that. It really is helpful to be able to go pretty directly to the animal and say, “What's up?,” ‘Why are you barking at men?,” and have the dog be able to share that back because a lot of people don't have access to that information.

Do animals know when you’re kissing them? If not, what do they think is happening?

Yes, they do know when you're kissing them, they do know it's a kiss. Animals interact with us intuitively, so it's not just the act of the lips kissing. It's also the feeling that we have, they feel those emotions in us, so they get it at all levels. It's not just about the kiss the physical kiss.

Do you have anything coming up in 2024 that you're really excited about?

I do, in the beginning of 2024, I'm teaching my beginner animal communication class!

How can we find more information about that?

You can go to my website, DanielleMacKinnon.com. Right there it'll say “Take the beginner class.” It starts toward the end of January and it's my favorite thing because I love watching people when they do it, and it actually works, and their faces go, “What?!” It's the coolest thing to see people realize that they can do it.

You’re quite the sensation on social media! Do you enjoy that world?

I really like filming TikToks and Instagram Reels. This is crazy hair right now, so I won't film until I get a hair cut in a few days. I do love it, but I can't do it with this crazy hair.

Here in Maine, our state motto is, “The Way Life Should Be.” According to you, what is the way life should be?

I'm waking up at five in the morning with my husband and taking my dog, Touka, who's right there, to Long Sands Beach and throwing the ball while the sun rises. That is my favorite thing about Maine. And it is my dog. It's just the three of us.

Much love to Danielle for taking the time to chat with me! It was so interesting learning more about how animals communicate and understand us. Learn more about Danielle and her upcoming courses here!
