Anti by Rihanna

Since I'm so thirsty for a new RiRi album, I've decided to take a little trip back to 2016 with her last album, Anti. This was hands down one of my favorite albums of that year (or maybe of any year) so I can't wait to have another taste.

1. Consideration ft. SZA

This is the perfect opening track for this album. The beat is so hard and the vocals almost have an old school vibe. Like so old school I can even hear something out of the 1950's during the chorus. The harmonizing between SZA & Ri is so gorgeous; I pray they collab more in the future.

2. James Joint

I always appreciate these short & sweet "skits" on an album. Though this isn't really a full length song, it's a nice transition from Consideration into this next beauty...

3. Kiss It Better

Easily one of my favorite songs on this album. If you don't feel this song in your veins, you might want to get yourself checked out.

Man, fuck your pride
Just take it on back, boy take it on back boy
Take it back all night
Just take it on back, take it on back

Everyone has been in this relationship/in this argument/in these feelings. Also, I will always approve of a little electric guitar on an R&B ballad.

4. Work ft. Drake

I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I know the lyrics to this one even after hearing it over 1,000 times, but that's not the point. You can't sit still when this is playing. Drake & Ri are easily one of my favorite dynamic duos; they mesh together perfectly every damn time. I'll never forget the day this song dropped; we played it on-air 7 TIMES in a row because we were so shook.

5. Desperado

Another one of my favorite tracks on this album right here. Am I the only one that feels like I'm in the wild, wild west when they listen to it?

We could be runaways, running from
And it’s out of luck
Yeah, yeah, there ain’t nothing
There ain’t nothing here for me
There ain’t nothing here for me anymore
I don’t wanna be alone

This is kind of a different vibe for her, but it just shows that her range is endless.

6. Woo

I can feel her strutting down a catwalk for the whole intro of Woo. The synth and filtering on this one is so dope. That being said, at the end of the day, this is usually a song that gets a "skip" from me. It's a little long for what it is. If it were just a tad shorter (maybe like James Joint) I'd say it was the perfect transition into Needed Me.

7. Needed Me

Now you see why I always skip Woo? This FIRE is what's next. Just like on Kiss It Better, I live for ballad Ri.

Didn't they tell you that I was a savage
Fuck your white horse and a carriage
Bet you never could imagine
Never told you you could have it

If you need to feel better about a relationship ending - this is your joint. You might not be as savage as Ri, but you certainly feel like it when you blast this alone in your car.

8. Yeah, I Said It

Quite frankly, this one is usually a "skip" for me too. It's definitely baby making music, but on an average day it's not my cup of tea. Slow and even-toned, not to mention the song after it is one of my favorites.

9. Same Ol' Mistakes

This song is incredible. It took me longer than I'm proud to admit to learn that it's actually a cover of Tame Impala's New Person, Same Old Mistakes. Tame Impala is amazing so the mixture of them & Ri is just mind blowing. It's also impressive how similar the cover is to the original.

I know that you think it's fake
Maybe fake's what I like
Point is I have the right
I'm thinking in black and white

This song is pretty long, and usually that's a turnoff for me, but this song could go on forever and I think I'd be fine with it.

10. Never Ending

I don't think I've ever listened to this one all the way through until this very moment. An interesting acoustic sound for her; almost folky. I could hear this playing during a really depressing scene of a sitcom.

Ghost in the mirror
I knew your face once, but now it's unclear
And I can't feel my body now
I'm separate from here and now

This isn't the best RiRi flavor in my opinion, but I will at least say this album definitely has something for everybody.

11. Love on the Brain

You know how I feel about ballad RiRi. This was absolutely one of the best love songs of the year. I still play this at proms for one of their slow songs and high school couples (who will probably be broken up within the year) basically sob into each other's arms. The high notes that she hits on this really shows how talented this woman is vocally. Also, the 1950's-esque beat really speaks to my soul.

Oh, and babe I'm fist fighting with fire
Just to get close to you
Can we burn something, babe?
And I run for miles just to get a taste
Must be love on the brain

If you ever meet someone that makes you feel like this, you better never let go of their ass.

12. Higher

RiRi was definitely in her feelings when she put together this album and I'm not mad about it at all. I'm obsessed with all of the old fashioned flavor sprinkled throughout the whole thing, especially in this song. She lets the rasp in her voice really fly and I have nothing but appreciation for that.

This whiskey got me feelin' pretty
So pardon if I'm impolite
I just really need your ass with me

Short & sweet - just the way mama likes it.

13. Close to You

Goosebumps off the jump.

Nothing but a tear, that's all for breakfast
Watching you pretend you're unaffected
You're pulling our connections, expecting me to let you go
But I won't

I feel like she was crying as she wrote this which makes me feel it even more. The piano is just so beautiful. Another flavor in the wild assortment that is Anti.

14. Goodnight Gotham

Ain't nothin' wrong with another short, transitional "skit"! You can just jump into Pose from Close to You, that just wouldn't be right. She's here to let you know a little switch up is about to go down.

15. Pose

Sassy Ri is back after a short break.

Stay dope, hoe rich
Gettin' dough, so rich
I smoke, yeah
And I ain't never liked a broke bitch

Unfortunately, that means she would never like me because I'm absolutely a broke bitch, but somehow I don't feel like I am when I sing this song. I love when Rihanna lets her ratchetness show for a bit.

16. Sex With Me

The bow on the whole package that is Anti. The ultimate confidence anthem.

Sex with me is amazing, with her it'll feel alright
The sex doesn't get any better, make it long, let it be all night
I know, I know, I make it hard to let go

Imagine actually feeling this way about yourself and then saying it out loud. We should all learn a thing or two from RiRi for sure.

Overall, I give this baby an 7/10. Now that I've put it out into the universe, let's all hope for a new album from our Queen RiRi very, very soon. If that does happen and you want to thank me, I always appreciate chocolates.
