My Personal Top 10 Highlights of 2018

Look, I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted a blog post here; I could sit here giving you excuses, “ya girl’s been busy blah blah blah,” but neither of us have time for that. The point is I am here now.

‘Tis the season for an overwhelming amount of “end of the year lists” so I thought why not contribute? Here are my personal favorite things that happened in 2018.

10. Haylstorm’s Sweet 27

If you know anything about me, you know I am the most extra when it comes to my birthday and this year was no exception. I could try to describe the magic, but you might as well just see for yourself here.

9. Actually starting to understand the value of exercise

It might sound loco because here I am in my late twenties, but this was the first full year of my life that I actually exercised on a consistent basis. As much as I hate to admit it, it’s made me learn that exercise really does have about a million benefits. I still feel like I’m going to die every time I do it, but now I know it’s worth it. That lesson right there was a huge accomplishment for me.

8. Dancing

Dancing has always been a highlight & huge part of my life, so this isn’t really a huge surprise. This year, I had the opportunity to dance with my gals The Lady Red Claws and a Maine Red Claws game AND I got to be a backup dancer for my guy B. Aull at our Hot Summer 2018 show!

7. Reuniting with Old Friends

Now that I live in Maine, I’m extra grateful when I get to spend time with old friends. I know it’s incredibly cliche, but when you can be separated from someone for years & then you get back together and it’s like no time has passed, they are a REAL one.

My friend Ali and I have been friends for 15 years (wtf?!) She’s now killin’ it in Washington, D.C. so I hadn’t seen her in 3 years. Last night, we crushed an entire pitcher of sangria and reminisced - it was just what the doctor ordered.

6. New Year, New Gig: Easy Day Hot Nights

It’s my blog so naturally you’re going to see a shameless plug in here. I’m so happy with my new regular Friday night DJ gig at Easy Day in South Portland! I’ll be back on January 11th djing every Friday from 8pm-12am. It’s so much fun and everyone who I’ve met there already is nice as pie.

5. #HotShows

The shows my station puts on are always my favorite events of the year. So much work goes into them so seeing the final vision all come together is amazing. This year, we brought some absolute legends to Maine, including Lil Jon, Sean Paul, Big Boi of Outkast, Fabolous, and more. I can’t wait to see what we cook up in 2019 because it just keeps gettin’ better!

4. Djing Weddings

This year I really dived into djing more weddings and I LOVED it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an incredible amount of work & pressure, but the feeling of knowing I helped build someone’s special day was amazing (and I don’t even care how cheesy that sounds, it really was fulfilling af.) After every wedding, I felt like I was part of the family after, it was great. I am so looking forward to bringing the party to more weddings to come!

Cheers to Mr. & Mrs. Oakes 🥂I’m so honored I got to DJ your special day ❤️

These 2 angels are Mrs. & Mrs. Killgren! Djing your wedding was magical, thank you so much for having me ❤️

3. Meeting American hero Stormy Daniels

Talk about ICONIC. It was so great that I had to write a whole blog post dedicated to just that night - you can find that right here.

2. Winning the Portland Phoenix’s Best of Portland: Radio Personality Award

I still remain shook by this. I can’t thank Portland enough for voting me Best Radio Personality. In radio, it sometimes feels like we’re just talking to ourselves (because most of the time we’re in a room doing exactly that with a microphone) so to see that that’s not true & we’re actually making an impact is cool as hell.

1. Interviewing Icons

One of my favorite things is getting to conduct interviews and this year I got to interview some of the greats. I’m still in disbelief that I got to sit face to face with these people that I’ve been listening to for years.

It’s deadass an out-of-body experience every since time.

Though I hate to admit it, my mom was right when she said the older you get, the faster time flies. 2018 was hands down the fastest year of my life, but I enjoyed (almost) every second of it. Cheers to 2019!

Leave your 2018 highlights in the comments - I want to hear all about it!
